Vehicle Security and Thefts from Cars

Vehicle thefts are often crimes of opportunity that could easily be prevented.

Secure your car by following these simple steps:

  • ALWAYS keep your car locked, even if you only leave it for a few seconds.  This includes closing the sunroof and windows.
  • DON’T LEAVE ANYTHING ON DISPLAY – particularly when it’s parked at night. Take your satellite navigation device with you if you can but remember to wipe off any suction marks on the windscreen as these may alert a thief to their presence in the car.
  • If you have to leave anything in the car, put it in the boot – even if you are only leaving your car for a few minutes.
  • Keep your keys in a safe place at all times and remove the ignition key every time you leave the vehicle.  It only takes a few seconds for someone to jump into your car and drive away.

Leave nothing on display
